Clean Up Australia Day Cairns
To all those #LocalLegends that came along in 2023 and helped on Clean Up Australia Day and collected with me 13 bags (!!!!) of rubbish PLUS a dirty ol’ tyre and a heap of fishing line and a plastic dummy AND……..you get my drift - you guys rock.👏👏👏👏 WE made such a world of difference to that little patch of Machans Beach and the Barron River Mouth. It was a heap of effort 🌧️🌊🧤🚮♻️ 😅 PLUS you get bonus points ‘cause it was raining that day. 🌧️🌧️🌧️🌧️🌧️🤨
BUT Hell it was worth it……not only for the PRIZES that 3 LUCKY families won ‘cause the took part that day 😉

As you can see it’s a photographers dream at sunset and sunrise 🌅📷🌄, a dog owners delight 🐾(off leash is cool) AND fishing is the Bees Knees here 🎣🐟🐠…. barramundi, mangrove jack etc etc are regularly caught……AND it always needs some TLC. Rubbish piles up and is at risk of floating back out to sea….. and onto our Great Barrier Reef. 😱🪸😱🐠😱
Every time I visit this beach to walk Archie 🐶 I try and collect at least a handful of rubbish. It’s amazing what washes up on a daily basis. 🤨
In 2022 we had an Awesome PRIZE donated to us by the CAPTA Group which one of our lucky Clean Up Kids won - a FAMILY PASS to one of 4 Parks - Australian Butterfly Sanctuary, Cairns Zoom & Wildlife Dome, Rainforestation Kuranda OR the Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas. 🎟️🦋🐊🦘🐨🪃👨👩👧👦 HOW COOL WAS THAT!!!!
