Cairns Jet Boat Adventure – Bad Fishy
[Updated October 2022]
Bad Fishy is just that. A Bad Bad Fishy that gets you very WET WET WET!!
As a jet boat experience this is to be slightly expected… But when you’re in the Tropics of North Queensland it is slightly welcomed too. Basking in the sun’s golden rays, feeling the warm wind whip around your face and add to it a healthy dose of tropical sea spray, and you really do feel like you’re living the good life.
For a late Sunday afternoon pick me up, the Bad Fishy Cairns Jet Boat ride was the perfect end to a Big Weekend. It certainly surpassed the coffee I had drunk earlier in an effort to remain upbeat and perky for the kids (who never seem to tire).
As soon as we jumped on I knew we were in for a wild ride - the boat’s devilish grin is a dead give-away. Captain Pat’s rundown also gave us a clear idea on what to expect.
Thankfully my kids opted for the wettest seats on the boat, although I’m pretty sure I came a close second.
So with the music pumped high, the jet engines roaring, we oh so casually made our way out of the Cairns marina and joined the main inlet’s traffic. It’s pretty easy to stand out though when you’re in a bright orange jet boat, rocking some wicked tunes, surfing the wash of passing boats and doing 360’s with a boat full of passengers waving their hands and screaming at the top of their lungs.
But it wasn’t all splashdowns, thrills and spins. Despite our high-octane charge around the mouth of Trinity Inlet Captain Pat was still able to impart on us some interesting information on the area and its history. It was a great introduction to a wetland wilderness that sits right on the doorstep of Cairns. And we managed to cover a lot more than you normally would on your average 35-minute boat journey.
As a family boat tour, the Cairns jet boat adventure with Bad Fishy was a winner. My daughter loved singing along to all the party tunes that were pumping out on the boat’s stereo.
My son got a kick out of all the scenery that whizzed past as we rocketed along, not missing a single shipwreck or abandoned hull that was tucked up in the mangroves. And I got to ‘sit back’ and enjoy the buzz and excitement of a tropical ride using minimal effort (except perhaps my handgrip on the metal bar in front).
As we walked back along the Cairns Wharf afterwards I realized I’d found the perfect pick me up for a long weekend, and I was almost tempted to hit the town…….Again!
