6 of the Best Gold Coast Activities
When you arrive at Australia’s most iconic holiday destination, you’ll quickly realise that you’re spoilt when it comes to finding something that suits.
In fact you’ll probably feel slightly overwhelmed by the amount of Gold Coast activities on offer, so here’s a quick pick of 6 of the best things we love about this Golden Coastline….
1) Best Views
If you want a view that surpasses all and gets you high above the rest of the skyline, then head straight to Q1. At 322.5m it is one of the world’s highest residential towers and up at level 77, the Skypoint observation deck, you’ll get a 360 degree, all encompassing birds-eye view of the strip and its hinterland.
There’s also some great storyboards on the history of the area, a café and bar plus an opportunity to challenge yourself and go a little higher with the Skypoint Climb.
2) Best Beach
Wow. Where to start? Surfers Paradise is a must for a real taste of what the Gold coast is all about.
This is where it all began and this beach is central to the main shopping outlets, iconic party venues, a huge range of restaurants plus it’s bustling with characters.
If you’re craving awesome surf then head south to Kirra Beach where one of world's premier surf breaks lie and where big pro-surfing competitions are held throughout the year. If you walk the track that takes you out to the headland and past Snapper Rocks, you’ll enjoy some great views back to Surfers.
Keep on heading upwards to Point Danger and you can cross the Queensland/New South Queensland border to view the legendary D-Bah break and NSW coastline to the south.
3) Best Theme Park
Highly debatable of course, but if you want an all-round theme park where everything is onsite then you really can’t go past Dream World.
There’s the BIG 9 Rides (that the kids always force me to do) White Water World, a dedicated toddler zone, a nature sanctuary and lets not forget their latest showcase – Tiger Island.
It’s a one stop thrill centre with a great range of fun activities that will suit all types of pleasure seekers.
4) Best Value Eat
For million dollar views, value for money and a great range of menu options you can’t go past the local Surf Lifesaving Clubs.
Located in prime beachside locations all along the Gold Coast you don’t even have to be a member to enjoy their bar and dining facilities. Sign in as a visitor (your residence must be located 15kms or more from the club) and help keep swimmers safe via your patronage.
It’s our Number One family destination when we want to treat ourselves on the Gold Coast.
5) Best ‘Wet’ Alternative
Number one option on a wet day for most will be shopping, after all you are on the Gold Coast. Pacific Fair and Robina Town shopping centres are amongst the biggest and most popular options. If shopping doesn’t cut it with your family then try this undercover option - Game Over.
You’ll find three super fun activities under one roof – Clip n Climb, Grand Prix (GoKart action) and Lazer Tag and it will definitely slow down those with energy to burn.
If rain doesn’t worry you and you’re happy to get even wetter then try Wet’n’Wild. You can almost guarantee that the queues will be halved and the waiting time reduced, plus the slides will be slipperier and faster!
6) Best Escape
Sometimes the hurly burly Gold Coast lifestyle can be slightly overwhelming. For a short day trip and a wilderness break take the 45-minute drive out to Springbrook National Park.
Here you’ll find a number of short (and long) walks through temperate rainforest and eucalypt forest that will offer you glimpses of the coastline or views of picture perfect waterfalls such as Natural Arch and Purling Brook Falls. And don’t forget to take your togs in case you want to enjoy a dip in the natural surroundings.
Have you visited the Gold Coast? What are your favourite things to do around this region? Any other Gold Coast activities you'd like to recommend?
