Instameet in Queensland – 5 Reasons to get Involved!
Do you use Instagram? Do you get inspired like me, and enjoy sharing and viewing photos on Instagram?
Then right now you should be getting a little bit excited because somewhere, sometime soon there will be an Instameet happening near you. So what is an Instameet & why should you go along??
Here’s my 5 reasons why YOU don't want to miss out..….
1. Meet Awesome People
Lets face it. Anyone with an Instagram account is awesome. Just the fact that you appreciate photos and you’re keen to share the places, the people or your unique moment with the Instagram (IG) community means you are pretty special. If you are a regular IG user then you’ll also be somebody who likes looking at other people’s photos and enjoy being inspired by their images.
So an Instameet (an event organized for, and by, Instagram users, to meet, create and share photos together) is the perfect opportunity to meet the people behind the photo accounts you may be following. It’s one thing to connect online, but it’s a completely other thing to connect in person.
According to Instagram’s own blog “Since the earliest days of Instagram, people have been meeting up offline and forming real-life friendships.” And you can understand why – getting an inner glimpse of someone’s photo album on a daily or weekly basis can give you insights into that’s persons life that you wouldn’t have first up. Coming together makes it far easier to connect and further inspire one another.
I must admit to be a serial stalker when it comes to certain IG Accounts (generally the one’s that have 20K+ fans already SO I’m not the only one ;) ). It was terribly exciting for me to meet some of the top IGers on my very first Instameet in Cairns – Pauly Vella (@paulyvella), Garry Norris (@garry_norris), Mark Clinton (@markclinton), Melissa Findley (@melissafindley), and Sol Davey (@sldvy) – all great people and friendly to boot.
2. You’ll have Fun
On my second Instameet with some of the local Cairns IG community it was decidedly WET. So wet in fact that most sane people stayed at home that day. I was happy to get out however, mainly cause the kids were driving me crazy, and it gave us the perfect opportunity to do something active and outdoorsy that rainy afternoon.
Despite all of us being very active smart Phones users there was nothing geekish about our Instameet group. We all shared the LOVE of capturing our home town Cairns in our own unique way and posting the images out to other IG fans. It was great to finally catch up with the real people behind these local IG accounts that I had been following and connecting with for some time.
3. Learn More
If you thought you were good at Instagram before an Instameet you’ll be surprised at your knowledge afterwards. Meet up with fellow Instagrammers and immediately you'll find yourself sharing tips and pointers that you've discovered along the way. If you’re new to the game then don’t let this put you off. The tips and pointers you discover on the day will set you up on a steep learning curve of this great Social Media app. It might be just learning about the additional apps and filters that can help your IG pics look even more awesome. OR it might be just some simple photo tips that make you become a better photographer. Perhaps it will be the list of hashtags that you’ll discover from fellow IGers – whatever it is you’ll walk away from an Instameet buzzing from all the stuff you’ve learnt.
4. Share Awesome Photos
At an Instameet you’ll be adding more photos to your gallery and you’ll see how others, who are standing in exactly the same spot, frame their shot. It’s totally fascinating to see the different angles, the different stories and the different filters that other people come up with when capturing the same subject. It’s great to sit down later and peruse the IG pics that have come out of your particular Instameet and enjoy the new aspects.
5. You might be part of a Record
Tourism Queensland was behind the campaign to create the Biggest and Best Instameet the world has ever seen. All it took was for Instagram users to ‘rock’ up at an Instameet happening near them on Oct 4th 2014, take a photo on the day, and upload it to their IG account after adding the hashtag #thisisqueensland. It was as simple as that and they did CRACK the world record on the day!
