Mumma Me Time

Everybody NEEDS some time out. Who agrees?

But what is it with mums that they always place themselves last on the list? It was in my case anyway! Sure, I’ve taken a few breaks from the kids with my partner in tow but never have I taken a break for myself, me, alone, AND trust me, that makes all the difference...

It was only a short trip, four days to bond with some University mates down South but it felt like soooooo much longer, having some mumma me time. Although I felt the plane trip wasn’t long enough.

Flying into the Big Smoke…Adelaide

Before I knew it I was landing in Adelaide, home to my Uni years and somewhere I hadn’t revisited for over 20 years! Just driving around the streets was like peeling back the layers of golden memories. One good thing about leaving it so long between catchups is that your girlfriends will travel miles to be there. In one case over 700kms which equates to an 7-hour drive. What a legend! The other good thing is that one catchup is not good enough for you and your mates.

Instead a string of get-togethers is required to make the most of this type of journey. In my case there were catch-ups at restaurants, market cafes, bars to revisit, a winery tour and even a 50th birthday party to attend.

So how did I feel upon return?

Completely refreshed, rejuvenated and of course happy to see my family once again. Did I miss them? Of course! I kept thinking about what a fantastic place to take them to see one day. Would I take off by myself again? Absolutely, only this time I won’t leave it so long…

How about you? Are you a strong believer of 'me time' for yourself and do you genuinely put time aside to do it? Let me know your secrets…
