Family Friendly Accommodation - Tropical Nites Port Douglas

It seemed we had landed at the perfect Family Haven.

The cheerful chuffing sound of the nearby Bally Hooley, a historic steam train that chugs along an old cane train track, had greeted us as we checked into Tropical Nites Port Douglas. It was a reminder that we needed to squeeze the train journey into our busy activity schedule.

Tropical Nites is a very family friendly option for accommodation in Port Douglas and it is only short 3-minute drive from the central hub, or a 15-minute walk if you decide to go on foot. It's secluded and just off the palm-lined road that brings you into the main hub of Port Douglas.

1. Spacious and Modern Apartments

The apartments seem to encircle the tropical inspired pool and large grassy area that fronts on to all the apartments.

All apartments offer everyday amenities essential for long-term stays - Wi-Fi, satellite TV, fully equipped kitchen with separated dining and lounge room, laundry, private balconies and air-conditioning.

2. Lawn!!

There's a big grassy outside area straight outside the villas that is offset from the main road. Ideal for little ones to run around on.

3. Swimming Pool & BBQ

A swimming pool with a shallow area suited for younger children. Plus the pool area has an undercover BBQ area that is great place for families and groups to catch up and wind down at the end of the day.

4. Access

How is it that when you have kids your luggage seems to increase exponentially?! I know as a family we never travel light. At Tropical Nites Port Douglas you pretty much have the convenience of being able to drive straight up to your own Villa and unload copious amounts of gear at your doorstep.

5. Bring your WHOLE Family (grandparents included!)

At Tropical Nites Port Douglas you have the ability to book as an extended family group - you could easily fit up to 8 people comfortably in one of the larger townhouses. Plus if you enjoy holidaying with other families it would be very convenient to have friends stay in the adjoining Villas. Tropical Nites would be an attractive option for families and friends invited to a special Port Douglas event such as a wedding.

6. Friendly Owner-Operators

Mel and Andy, have been in charge for the over 2 years and have a young family of their own. They offer old-fashioned hospitality and help take the guesswork out of your own journey thanks to their local knowledge of trips, restaurants, and good coffee-havens.

It's a good idea to book your accommodation directly with your friendly hosts as they'll match whatever deal you'll find on the internet via booking agents.

Ultimately, we knew we had stumbled across the perfect setting when we returned from our full-on day of Port Douglas adventures. One large group had gathered around the pool area on that warm sultry evening and the air was filled with their gentle banter – it seemed like the ideal wind-down after an activity-filled day…… I know we’ll be back (hopefully with another family in tow).

UPDATE (2020)

YES!! We decided to visit again - this time with teenagers in tow and found Tropical Nites Port Douglas catered for us perfectly yet again, despite the age difference. Josh (16 years) invited one of his friends so this time we booked out the 3-Bedroom Villa for us all.

There was plenty of space for all of us (ie we weren't getting in everyone's faces) and we found loads of 'extras' in the pantry which came in handy when we had to feed our ever hungry teens. ;)

Are you keen to stay at Tropical Nites Port Douglas? Have you visited the township of Port Douglas before?

We received a complimentary stay BUT all views, opinions and photos in this article are my own.
