Insider Guide to Port Douglas – 6 Local Tips from Brett at Windswell Kitesurf & SUP
If you want a glimpse at someone who is living life to the fullest in TNQ then Brett from Windswell Port Douglas is the perfect example.
He took part of the support crew for a Guinness World Record for kitesurfing on the Great Barrier Reef (1,237km Cairns to Cape York) and when he's not kitesurfing the reef, or organising Stand Up Paddle Board tours down local rivers, you'll find him and his family chilling around the Port Douglas region.....
So it's time to hear what his local tips are on where and what are the best things to do around his town.......
1. Why Port Douglas?
"It's close to all the elements that I like - the wind and the waves at Four Mile Beach, and you have the Great Barrier Reef and the Great Dividing Range outback, plus Cape York Peninsula to the north and the Daintree National Park meeting the Coral Sea. It's all here...literally 20-40 mins from Port."
2. Best Coffee?
"The one I have in the morning and the one I have in my espresso at night."
3. Favourite Food Spots?
"For me it's usually what I catch myself...
Of course you have all the Port Faves like
the Beach Shack, - OPEN from 5pm to order pick-up or delivery
the Surf Club, OPEN 7 days/week, 12 - 8pm, Bookings essential
Hi Tide, - Temporarily closed
Zinc, - OPEN 7 days/week, 12-3pm, Dinner @5.30pm & 7pm, Bookings essential
Nautilus - OPEN Fri & Sat nights, 6-7pm, Bookings essential
of course Salsa Bar & Grill - Open 12pm until late, bookings essential
the Lure - OPEN 7-3pm, Breakfast, Lunch, happy hour & tapas
......the list goes on..."
4. Best Local Escape?
"Having time out and enjoying the place to your self doesn't take much and you'll find your piece of paradise out on the water or on the river or Islands and reef."Editors note: Brett can take you to any of his local hot spots via his own Windswell boat.
5. Must Do Activity?
"Probably check the beach first, or head up to the Point and check the wind to see if it's any good for a kitesurf. If not then definitely a paddle board on the Mossman River"
6. If money is no object?
"Just visit the region. You'll find plenty to do money, or no money."
Where can we find you?
"You can find me online, or at the WindSwell Kitesurf and Standup Paddle school south end of the Four Mile Beach or out on the reef, namely Low isles, Snapper island or Undine Cay, otherwise check the river."If you'd like to learn more about the Brett's Mossman Paddle Board tour then read my BlogPost:
